SAOT Festival reading with Tracy Fuad and Christian Hawkey

Callie’s and a.p. are thrilled to partner with SAOT Festival to present a reading on Thursday, June 16th at 6:00PM with poets Tracy Fuad and Christian Hawkey, moderated by Haia Dawkar.

SAOT is an interdisciplinary festival for solidarity with Palestine and intersectional struggles in Berlin. The word “saot” means “sound” in Arabic — in the context of the festival referring both to the conditions of silence Palestinians have endured since forced displacement in 1948, and the continual disappearance of Palestinian archival materials and historical narratives. The festival endeavors to open a space for discussion of Palestinian struggle, all the more relevant in Berlin amidst persistent and pervasive state-sanctioned marginalization of Palestinians. SAOT confronts the efforts of undoing these injustices and contributes to the decades-long battles manifested through resistance and art.

Tracy Fuad's debut collection of poetry, “about:blank”, was named a finalist for the National Poetry Series and chosen by Claudia Rankine as the winner of the 2020 AWP Donald Hall Prize. She is also the author of the chapbooks “Body of Water 2,” “PITH.” and “DAD DAD DAD DAD DAD DAD DAD.” Her work has been published and anthologized by Poetry Magazine, Poetry Daily, Best New Poets, Poem-a-Day, The New Republic, and the Boston Review. A graduate of the Rutgers-Newark MFA program, she is based in Berlin, where she teaches at the Berlin Writers' Workshop.

Christian Hawkey has written several full-length poetry collections, including most recently: “Sift” (Action Books, 2021). He’s published several chapbooks, as well as the widely reviewed and celebrated cross-genre book “Ventrakl” (Ugly Duckling Presse). He is currently at work on a co-translation (with Marouane Zakhir) of two books by the Moroccan philosopher Abdessalam Benabdelali.
