Freedom in the Lyric Continuum: a workshop with the87press

25 June 2022
12:00 PM

You are invited to attend this bespoke poetry workshop hosted by Azad Ashim Sharma and Kashif Sharma-Patel, with special guest interlocutors Sarona Abuaker and Kat Addis. During the workshop we will discuss 3 critical texts (By Rene Menil, Keston Sutherland, and Kamau Brathwaite) on poetic practice and invite you to contribute with questions and comments. We will then do a writing exercise. After this you will be invited to edit your piece of work for publication on the87press's online journal The Hythe.

Participants are asked to think about automatic writing, criticality, sound, liberation, and experimental writing in advance of the workshop, especially how it relates to their practice.

We strongly encourage marginalized (e.g. racialised esp. Black, Asian, Arab, LGBTQ+, Low-Income, Neurodiverse) writers / aspiring poets to attend this workshop.

Please ensure you have downloaded the reading materials and read them in advance of this workshop (which will be sent out upon registration).

Attendance is free but space is limited; please use this link to register.
